Pune: Though the festival of Ramzan is a holy month for Muslims, people belonging to other religions also join the feasting, after the day-long fasting. Various food vendors said that non-Muslims are very eager to try out various Irani delicacies available at their stalls.
Imdadi Group Chairman Musaffa Shaik said, “Till date, during the festival of Ramzan, neither the delicacies have changed, nor the taste of the food has changed. The only change we notice is the increasing number of non-Muslims participating in the feast in the iftar.”
Salim Shaikh, manager of Agra Restaurant at Azam Campus, voiced a similar opinion and said, “Tandoori non-veg items and kebab recipes are more famous among non-Muslims. Our famous Afghani leg non-veg items is also a great option for them to feast on.”
Muaz Shaikh of Bombay Falooda said, “We receive customers from different communities. Since other delicacies are available in other restaurants, we mainly serve only our famous falooda. We also have been noticing that our shop is famous among IT professionals rather than families.”
Nusrat Shaikh, owner of Shalimar, said, “We have noticed in last three years that non-Muslims are more interested in eating the whole roasted goat, which is our speciality and for which, we have hiked the cost from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000. Also every year, our chefs try to change our recipes to attract more people.”
IT professional Tukaram Shinde who was enjoying iftar delicacies at Shalimaar said, “It is a great opportunity to taste Irani food items that I have heard about several times from different people.” Trushali Pawar, a student feasting in Imdadi restaurant, said, “Non-veg Afghani leg items is the best food I have ever tried in Imdadi. Apart from this, I also love different kebabs and tandooris available during the festival.”
Working professional Sahil Singh said, “During Ramzan, I get to experince togetherness when we all friends feast together on one table and it also gives me the advantage to enjoy many delicacies.”
